Residential Remodeling Carpenter's Helper

We are seeking a reliable and dedicated Carpenter's Helper to support our team in completing residential remodeling projects. This role requires a variety of general construction and maintenance tasks, including carpentry assistance, minor plumbing and electrical work, and overall site upkeep. The Carpenter's Helper will assist with both rough and finish carpentry, perform general maintenance, and contribute to various other tasks on a wide range of home improvement projects.

Key Responsibilities:

General Cleaning & Demolition: Assist with site cleanup, including debris removal and prepping work areas for new construction.
Gutter Cleaning & Maintenance: Perform routine gutter cleaning and ensure proper water flow.
Caulking & Sealing: Apply caulk and sealant around windows, doors, and other surfaces to ensure a weather-tight seal.
Weatherproofing: Assist in sealing gaps and cracks, ensuring the home is weather-resistant.
Minor Concrete & Masonry Work: Assist with basic concrete and masonry work including pouring and smoothing concrete.
Routine Maintenance & Inspections: Perform general maintenance tasks and assist with inspections to identify potential issues.
Appliance Installation & Repair: Help with the installation, repair, and maintenance of appliances.
Assembly & Installation of Shelving & Storage Solutions: Support in the assembly and installation of shelving units, cabinets, and storage solutions.
Rough & Finish Carpentry: Assist with framing, trim work, door/window installation, and other carpentry tasks.
Installation of Surface Protection: Apply surface protection to floors, walls, and furniture to prevent damage during construction.
Flooring & Tile Repair: Assist with minor flooring and tile repairs, including installation and replacements.
Punch List Items: Complete various punch list tasks as needed to finalize projects, including touch-ups, adjustments, and repairs.

Position overview

This document defines the responsibilities, objectives, measurable results and required capabilities for the Apprentice Carpenter (Residential Construction) position at BRYJO Roofing & Remodeling. The role is an entry-level skilled-trade position intended to provide structured, supervised on-the-job training and contribution to residential framing, sheathing, trim, finish carpentry, drywall work, and related installations under the direction of journeymen and site supervisors.

Apprentices are accountable for safely executing assigned tasks, preparing and laying out materials from drawings or instructions, operating common hand and power tools, maintaining jobsite housekeeping and tools, and progressively acquiring the technical knowledge and practical skills necessary to perform independent carpentry tasks in compliance with project plans and applicable codes.

Primary objectives and key results (OKRs)

Objective: Maintain a safe, compliant work environment. Key results: Zero recordable injuries attributable to apprentice work; 100% completion of required site safety orientations and toolbox talks in the first 30 days on each site; documented PPE and tool checks completed daily.
Objective: Deliver accurate, quality workmanship on assigned tasks. Key results: Rework rate for apprentice-assigned components ≤ 5% per quarter; completion of assigned framing/finish tasks within allocated labor hours 85% of the time based on the site foreman’s estimates.
Objective: Demonstrate measurable skill progression toward journeyman competency. Key results: Completion of defined apprenticeship training modules or skills checklist milestones (e.g., basic framing, door/window installation, drywall hanging/finishing, trim work) at scheduled intervals; supervisor-rated competency score increase quarter-over-quarter.
Objective: Support project productivity and schedule adherence. Key results: Materials prepared and staged on time for scheduled work 90% of instances; assist in reducing journeyman overtime attributable to preparatory tasks by 25% within six months.

Key skills, abilities and knowledge required

Measurement and layout: competent measurement, squaring, basic geometry and ability to follow simple dimensional drawings and work instructions.
Drywall and finishing basics: hanging, taping, and initial sanding techniques appropriate for apprentice-level tasks.
